M Bar Shorthorns

Calving season is winding down here at the ranch.  The calves born at M-Bar this year are sired by TM Dazzler, Legacy 23G, Waukaru Goldcard, and TM Buckwheat (Deer Trail Buckshot son).  We did have some crossbred calves by Conneally Frontpage 0227 as well.  Our calving season was very un-eventful, with only 2 heifers requiring assistance.  All of our calves look real promising at this time, but it is really early to be picking out the best ones.  We did not get the chance to burn pastures this year as intended due to low moisture thorough the winter.  Thank goodness we are receiving rain now, as the ponds were still dry until early March.  The wheat pasture is holding up good, but the recent snow has severely injured the wheat crop.  Our wheat will be spared from the combine, but not the hay mower and cows.  The cows are in good health, but not overly conditioned by any means.  We did pour the group a few weeks ago due to lice.  Faye and Clayton now have some extra projects around the ranch as they have 2 show rabbits and 50 catfish to care for.  Clayton really likes to throw fish food in the pond, and Faye is ready to hit the fair with here rabbits.  We are serving as a host site in July for the Shorthorn University and genuinely welcome all Shorthorn enthusiasts to attend.  Waukaru Goldmine 6049 was delivered 04.12.2007, and he looks to be a tremendous herd building sire.  Our purchase was due to the sale of ?Hank? to Sullivan Farms in Iowa.  We feel that ?Hank? will do very well for John and Dede on their Solution daughters.  Hopefully, if it warms up, we will be turning cows out to summer grass in the next two weeks.  Breeding season looks to shape up the same as last year as we plan to utilize the same group of sires again.  Goldmine 6049 will be used extensively and we tentatively plan to campaign him this fall at selected events.  Hope all of your spring season is going well.
